Safety At Sea Committee - Terms of Reference



US SAILING SAFETY AT SEA COMMITTEE
TERMS OF REFERENCE

1. PURPOSE

To act as the clearing house for the various US SAILING constituencies in matters dealing with safety at sea.

2. COMPOSITION

2.1 The Safety at Sea Committee shall consist of a Chairman and twenty (20) other members.

2.2. The term of the Chairman shall be three (3) years. The Chairman shall be appointed by the President of US SAILING at the recommendation of the Chairman of the Offshore Committee, and may not serve more than two (2) consecutive terms unless an exception to this limit is approved by the US SAILING Executive Committee.

2.3. The term of each committee member shall be three (3) years. A member may not serve more than two (2) consecutive terms.

2.4. After the close of the AGM, the Chairman shall promptly submit the names of the full Safety at Sea Committee, together with these Terms of Reference, to the Chairman of the Offshore Committee for approval by the President, US SAILING.

3. FUNCTIONS AND ACTIVITIES

The Safety at Sea Committee shall:

3.1. Liaison with US SAILING Committees and Councils on Safety at Sea matters.

3.2. Coordinate safety at sea research and safety educational programs.

3.3 Assign specialist groups to address specific problems in equipment, technique or other aspect of safety at sea.

3.4. Communicate through the communication distribution channels of US SAILING.

3.5. Coordinate and submit proposed changes to the ISAF Special Regulations annually.
