STANDARDS

  2. Six-year expiration on SOLAS Flares?  With E/GPIRB's can the number of flares be reduced?, Glenn McCarthy.
  3. With the USCG approving many Inflatable PFD's, is it time to make USCG "the" standard?, Glenn McCarthy.  
  4. The International Technical Committee of the ORC desires to make changes to the IMS Rule. The fallout of these proposed changes are that the ORC Special Regulations would not be in concert with the IMS Rules. The applicable change has to do with "Small Boat Interiors and Cockpits." Bruce Eissner.
  5. ORC Regs Submission Deadline 9/1/01 or US SAILING Prescription Changes.
    1. Category 5 Sportboat.
    2. Multihull – Crash bulkheads, Bill Doelger.
    3. 6.01 Training, Bruce Eissner.
    4. Quick-Stop Diagram, Warren Mazanec.
    5. Remove references to other standards in the ORC book, and publish safety regs in full description, Bill Doelger.
    6. Non-Skid, now available in Clear, White and Black, add to smooth surfaces, Glenn McCarthy.
  6. We need volunteers to lead an effort on building an incident database. The end goal is to archive reports of serious SAR missions, COB rescues, Overdue Vessels, and other sailing incidents that are not currently being tallied nationally. This group would interface with the USCG Public affairs, American Boat and Yacht Council, National Safe Boating Council and the yachting press. The purpose is to help us see what risk factors really need to be addressed, Glenn McCarthy.
  7. ISO Update, Bruce Eissner.
