SAC Notes Spring Meeting
Mobile, AL
March 13, 2004

Attendance: Dean Brenner, Betsy Altman, Louise Gleason, Lee Parks Guests: Dave Irish, Susan Daly

1. Dean Repeated goal of increasing athlete pool, and why. 310 February 2004; 400 March 2004, Goal by year end 1000
2. Council Members are working with individual classes – Louise coordinating effort.
3. Melges 24, Mumm 30, Farr 40 – Nelson Stephenson was mentioned as a contact person for those classes. Dean will follow up with him.
4. There is a need to identify college sailors and recruit them. SAC is looking for a volunteer council member to lead process.
5. There was a discussion regarding the SAC role in selecting athlete reps to the BOD and communication with the Athlete Rep on the Nominating committee.
6. The recommendation was made to conduct a definition review process every two years. SAC needs a volunteer council member to lead this project.
7. Discussed the modifications to the Youth Alcohol/Drug regulation with Susan Daly. The Sailor Athlete Council supported changes. Sailor Athletes should be role models.
8. SAC Council members to contact individual classes using the following guidelines
a. Contact class administrators
b. Contact class champions
c. Use prepared wording from SAC web page for correct language.
d. SAC members to collect and enter event data for past events into US SAILING calendar to help facilitate registration process for new registrants.
