Sailing Representative to the USOC Athletes Advisory

I. Eligibility
- To be eligible to
serve on the USOC AAC, an athlete must have represented the United
States in Olympic, Pan American, or Operation Gold competition within
the preceding ten years as measured from the first AAC meeting of the
Quadrennium.
- An athlete may
serve as the USOC AAC representative from an NGB for a maximum of two
terms. An athlete may serve for an additional term as an at-large
member of the USOC AAC.
- Athletes cannot
be paid employees of the USOC or NGB and simultaneously serve on the
USOC AAC.
- The
representative and alternate must be of the opposite sexes.
- Only athletes
eligible to run for the AAC position are eligible to vote for the AAC
position.
- Elections must be
concluded by the end of the Quadrennium. (Chapter XXIV, Section 1
currently requires elections to be at the conclusion of the Summer
Olympic Games.)
- All approved
procedures must be codified in the NGB’s AAC documents and may be
codified in the NGB organic documents.
- Individual
athletes are responsible for updating their contact information with the
NGB. The NGB will make a good faith effort to contact all eligible
athletes, however, nominations and elections will not be delayed due to
the inability to locate and contact athletes.
II. Nominations
1. Following the conclusion of the
Olympic Sailing events, the NGB will send out a "Notice of Election" to
notify all eligible athletes, as defined in I.1. above, regarding the
dates for nominations and voting.
2. Athletes may nominate themselves or
others. All nominations must be accepted by the nominee and seconded prior
to the actual voting. Nominees who do not accept their nomination or fail
to gain a second shall not be included on the final ballot.
III. Voting
1. Voting may take place by US mail
and/or web page and/or electronic mail. Voting methods will be clearly
stated in the Notice of Election.
2. The nomination and voting periods will
be approximately two weeks in duration each. The exact dates must be
stated in the initial notice of election.
3. Elections should be completed 21 days
prior to the first AAC meeting of the quadrennium, but may be completed
sooner.
IV. Grievances
1. Athletes may resolve disputes
regarding the election procedures according to Article 14 of the US
SAILING Bylaws. |
