US Sailing’s Youth Department connects you to the programs, events, and resources that support youth sailors and stakeholders. Whether you’re new to the sport or a seasoned sailor we’re here to help all types of youth sailors enjoy the sport, improve their skills, and become sailors for life.

Instructor Certification – Quality Instruction at All Levels

US Sailing is committed to ensuring that young people learn how to sail from certified instructors in a safe and fun environment. We have set the standard for youth sailing programs in the U.S. offering certification courses for instructors and coaches on a wide range of boats at varying levels of expertise. Instructor certification courses range from 2 days to 5 days, and are hosted by boating programs around the country, year-round.

Reach – US Sailing’s STEM Education Initiative

Join the 400+ programs taking part in Reach, US Sailing’s STEM Education Initiative. In 2012, US Sailing launched “Reach” a national education initiative to inspire sailing programs and school to utilize sailing as an educational platform. Reach exposes youth sailors, arguably our most vested future highly skilled workers and environmentalists, to STEM and environmental education. In addition, 90% of students participating in Reach are first time sailor, creating an on-ramp to the sport for youth of all backgrounds.

USA Junior Olympic Sailing Festivals – Dreams Start Here/

US Sailing Junior Olympic Sailing Festivals are the spark that ignite a lifelong love for racing.  For young sailors who are new to racing and experienced junior sailors with high aspirations, USA Junior Olympic Sailing Festivals are the perfect starting line.

Every year 4,000+ young sailors join in the fun and excitement of Junior Olympic Sailing Festivals.  These events improve racing skills, connect young sailors with new friends and serve as a gateway to future opportunities in the sport. A JO event at your club can energize your youth program through a mix of competition and fun sailing activities for sailors at all levels.

US Sailing National Championships are the place to be for young sailors seeking an opportunity to race against the best. With an emphasis on skill development as well as competitive excellence, these regattas feature instruction conducted by world-class, US Sailing-provided coaches. Competitors gain exposure to the top-levels of competitive sailing, and make friendships and connections that will last a lifetime.

Olympic Development Program

Guided by the Project Pipeline strategic initiative, US Sailing’s Olympic Development Program (ODP) provides world-class coaching support to promising American youth sailors competing in high-performance classes. The ODP is a long-term initiative to help young sailors build complete skill sets in order to achieve success in high-performance sailing and at the Olympic level.
