The privacy of those visiting our web
site is important to US SAILING. If you are a US SAILING member and
wish to retain your privacy, please check the privacy box at
http://www.ussailing.org/myussailing/myinfo.asp. This will prevent
personal information from showing in the Member Directory. Organizers
of USSAILING-sanctioned events (only) will have special access to
member numbers and expiration dates in order to verify entry
eligibility.
We urge parents
to discuss with their children the importance of protecting the
confidentiality of personally identifiable information.
What Information is Collected
When joining or renewing a membership, we may ask visitors to
provide personal information including name, email address, telephone
number and (in the case of youth members) date of birth.
How We Might Use the Information
This information is used to help us contact members and conduct
our business. We occasionally sell, distribute, trade or otherwise
transfer personally identifiable information obtained from a user to
third parties that in our opinion will make responsible use of it.
Should you choose not to share your personal information, you may
select this option using the online membership form
http://www.ussailing.org/myussailing/myinfo.asp Or you may send
an email to that effect to
membership@ussailing.org, and we will act on your request.
Third-Party Sites and Sponsors
Our site contains links to other sites the information practices of
which may be different from ours. Visitors should consult the other
sites' privacy notices as they may differ from ours.
Cookies and How We Use Them
Cookies are used to gather basic tracking information and to
monitor the presentation of advertisements and are placed on your hard
drive by many major web sites. We place cookies only with your
permission and then only to identify you when you return to our web
site. We do not link the information collected through cookies to
personally identifiable information provided by users who participate
in our activities. Cookies do not contain any information that is, in
itself, personally identifying.
Posting of information concerning members on the web site
There are numerous occasions when visitors to our web site want to
determine the membership status of members or to contact a member of a
committee, council, or certified group. To facilitate this and at the
same time protect the privacy of individual members, we treat
information differently depending on the extent to which members are
active in US SAILING. Certain committees and groups at their choice
display members’ personal information and certifications. The chart
below summarizes our handling of information on members:

Important points: |
|
|
-
A privacy
flag allows members, even those serving on committees, to keep ALL
their information totally confidential. If they are judges, race
officers or serve on a committee that decides to show its members'
contact information, this information will still show in the Find
a Judge, Find a Race Officer or specific committee member pages.
|
|
|
|
|
|
-
Anonymous
users will only be able to confirm that a person is a member. They
will be able to see name and city, but not phone numbers,
addresses or even eddresses of committee members. This information
will still be available elsewhere in some cases (Find a Judge,
Find a Race Officer, Committee list on Committee site), but not
from the Membership Directory.
