US SAILING Partners With North U
To Launch 2009 Racing Rules Seminars

Portsmouth, R.I. (July 1, 2008) - US SAILING, national governing body for the sport, and North U, a provider of educational sailing programs geared towards improving the sailing skills of racing sailors, have teamed up to offer Racing Rules Seminars in 2009 to sailing organizations nationwide. The partnership comes at an opportune time as the new Racing Rules of Sailing for 2009-2012 will take effect January 1, 2009.

The Racing Rules Seminar is an intensive full-day program taught by top experts in the field: Betsy Alison, Brad Dellenbaugh, David Dellenbaugh, Bill Gladstone, Peter Isler, Dave Perry, and others. The seminar illustrates the underlying principles of the Racing Rules of Sailing through a variety of interactive exercises, quizzes and situational games. Students learn to recognize positions, conflicts and opportunities on each leg of the course. US SAILING members receive a $40.00 discount to attend a Racing Rules Seminar.

"North U is a leader in providing sailors with outstanding go-fast training to improve their racing skills," said US SAILING Marketing Director Dan Cooney. "US SAILING helps provide a level playing field by administering the rules and training race officials. Together, these two organizations can reach more sailors and help them better understand the rules. It’s good for sailors, good for the race course and good for the sport."

Sailing organizations interested in hosting a Racing Rules Seminar are asked to contact Francine Wainer at fran@northu.northsails.com or 1-800-347-2457.

A schedule of 2009 seminar dates and locations will be announced later this year.
