DATA
REPORTING
A.
PARTICIPATING CLUBS
We are indebted to clubs and fleets that have
submitted race results over the years. The service of providing sailors with Portsmouth
Numbers and Wind Handicap Factors could not progress were it not for those concerned
enough to send in their results for club races and regattas.
All clubs and/or fleets, regardless of size, should encourage your race committees to:
1) record wind velocity at the start, middle
and finish of races.
2) record the elapsed time of each boat in
handicap or level rating fleets and, at least, the first boat in
each one-design class, then
3) mail race results including average wind
velocity to US SAILING on a timely basis after the event or
annually, by November 1.
If you think a handicap is inappropriate, make sure your race results are being supplied
to US SAILING. Then you are invited to contact the Portsmouth Numbers Committee with
data supporting your position.
B. DATA SUBMITTAL
You may use the data reporting form in
this Yardstick or just send a copy of your score sheet showing elapsed times. Printed
score sheets can be scanned. You may also submit results on diskettes in ASCII format or
in any version of Microsoft Excel, Word or Works
or in
Sailwave
html format.

REPORTING RACE RESULTS
Results where fleets are sent off at 5-minute intervals around the same course
may be combined. Results for classes sailing different courses should be reported as
separate races. Please send race data as convenient during the year and preferably no
later than November 1 each year.
Be sure to include name, address and telephone number(s) of person submitting data, in
case questions arise.
Information needed:
Club or fleet name plus
senders address, phone and email (if questions arise)
Class of boat
Elapsed time, preferably in decimal minutes carried to two places
Average wind velocity in MPH, knots or by specific
BN (do not list as 0-1, 2-3 or 5-9 range)
Keel configuration on keelboats and offshore classes where more than one keel shape has
been
designed (also applies to some centerboard classes)
Genoa size (%), when applicable, and if spinnaker (S/AS) used
Any additional information you
think is pertinent
It is appreciated when the corrected time for each boat is included, as well as the number
(or average
number) of boats in each class
Include a detailed description when reporting results of a non-standard boat or one
that is not listed
in the Tables
Include finish times for each sailboard.
Data received after December 1 may not
be processed until the following year |
