Diary: A Day in the Life
"Qing-WOW" is what some of the sailors have nicknamed Qingdao, the location of the 2008 Olympic Sailing Competition. The city has built a world-class venue in preparation for the 2008 Games, giving athletes a taste of Olympic excitement one year out. The final test event, The Good Luck Beijing - 2007 Qingdao International Regatta, is underway and the venue is hopping.
The top-ranked members of the US Sailing Team, along with a dozen US SAILING staff supporting the team, spent the first busy few days in Qingdao unpacking containers, prepping boats, predicting conditions and practicing. This regatta is a chance for the athletes to gauge their performances, skills and boat speed against the best sailors in the world.
So what does it take to compete at this elite level? Go behind-the-scenes of this regatta and read daily notebooks from the athletes and the support staff. Who needs a plane ticket and binoculars when you can grab a front row seat from your computer?
