Top five sailors in each
Olympic event, ranked annually. |

the Team competing at the Olympic Practice Regatta, and the Olympic Sailing Team. |
| III. SELECTION PROCESS |

A. |
Performance in a series of
qualifying (ranking) regattas agreed upon by the respective class and the Olympic Sailing
Committee (OSC). |

B. |
Qualifying for a national team
recognized by the OSC. |
| IV. BENEFITS TO SAILORS |
|
A. |
Formal recognition as a top
contender for an Olympic berth. |

B. |
Receives team jackets, shirts
and other clothing when issued. |

C. |
Receives publicity support for
campaign. |

D. |
Receives letter, certificate
and card showing membership on the US Sailing Team. |

self to potential campaign sponsors and supporters as a member of the US Sailing Team. |

| V. EXPECTATIONS OF SAILORS |
|
A. |
Behave so as to reflect well
on the US Sailing Team and act to support the overall program. (See Section VII, Code of
Conduct.) |
|
B. |
Train and compete with the
objective of gaining a berth on a National Team. |
|
C. |
Wear team clothes and gear at
international and OSC supported regattas, and when required. |
|
D. |
Cooperate with OSC in requests
for reports, support of sponsors, and other activities upon occasion. |
| VI.
SPONSORSHIP |
|
A. |
Team Sponsors - Individual
athletes, when competing on OSC grants, should wear US Sailing Team sponsor's gear
whenever possible, whether on the water or ashore. |
|
B. |
Individual Sponsors -
Sponsorship, and in-kind donations, in the following categories are limited by US
SAILING's agreement with the United States Olympic Committee (USOC): non-alcoholic
beverages, film/batteries/cameras, malt beverages, computers, copiers/faxes, credit cards,
banking, restaurants, telecommunications, airline, automotive, cereal/yogurt/fruit snacks.
Sponsorship and in-kind donations in the following categories are limited by US Sailing
Team sponsors: apparel, shoes, watches, foul weather gear. By US SAILING's Board of
Directors' action, tobacco sponsorship is prohibited. |
| VII. CODE OF CONDUCT |
|
A. |
Conduct oneself, both on the
water and ashore, in a way that reflects well on the US Sailing Team. Treat all
competitors, judges, officials, coaches and others with courtesy, respect and dignity
reflecting high standards of sportsmanship and civil behavior. Team members are expected
to be honest in all dealings; show respect for other people's opinions and property;
communicate with a helpful, sharing attitude; demonstrate self-discipline in conducting
their affairs; and generally act in a responsible way that supports the U.S. Olympic
sailing program. |

B. |
Abstain from ingesting illegal
drugs (including alcohol when under age) and banned substances. |
| VIII.
PENALTIES |
|
A. |
Should it come to the
attention of any member of the Executive Committee of US SAILING's OSC that a member of
the US Sailing Team may have acted in a manner inconsistent with the "Code of
Conduct," the OSC Chairman will appoint an ad hoc committee to investigate the
alleged incident. |
|
B. |
The ad hoc investigative
committee will determine the facts of the alleged incident and will decide in which of the
three categories the incident falls: |
|

1. |
Without merit, or so minor that no action
be taken. |
|
|
2 |
Sufficiently serious that some action be
taken. |
|
|
3. |
A gross infringement of acceptable
behavior sufficient to warrant referral to US SAILING's Executive Committee which then may
establish a formal inquiry under RRS Rule 69. |
|
C. |
If the OSC Executive Committee
decides the incident warrants punishment, it will first inform the affected competitors.
Should the affected competitors object to the finding or decision, the OSC Executive
Committee may refer the matter to US SAILING's Executive Committee. |
