![]() The Equipment – The 23’ Sonar was conceived to fulfill the need for a boat to be used in club one-design racing programs that was not only exciting to race, but also easily handled by sailors of varied skill levels. The prototype hit the waves in 1980 having been created by legendary U.S. designer Bruce Kirby in response to the requirements defined through a survey of four sailing clubs in New England. Comfortable for an all-day sail, the Sonar is easily launched for wet or dry sailing. The boat’s stability and safety made it popular with learn-to-sail programs, and led to its choice by disabled sailors as their premier boat for national, world and Paralympic racing. Disabled sailors find that the Sonar's configuration, with a self-bailing sit-in cockpit, allows them to sail efficiently and safely while at the same time giving them the same performance and excitement enjoyed by their able-bodied competitors. The Entrants – There will be a total of 15 entries for the Open Three-person Keelboat Event (Sonar). The following countries have qualified to send an entrant: AUS, CAN, ESP, GBR, GER, GRE, IRL, ISR, JPN, NED, NOR, POL, SIN, SWE, USA. The Competition – Notable foreign competition will include 2000 Sonar Paralympic Silver Medallist Jens Kroker (GER). The Schedule -
