As part of US SAILING's Olympic Sailing Committee
(OSC) ongoing mission to facilitate the success of elite performance
athletes, the US Sailing Team will choose the top three (3) ranked
sailors in each of the 11 classes.
The
US Sailing Team annually distinguishes the top three ranked sailors in
each of the nine classes (11 events) selected for the next Olympic
Games. The classes selected for the 2008 Olympic Games are: Finn (men);
470 (men and women); Laser (men); Laser Radial (women); Neil Pryde RS:X
(men and women); 49er, Star, Tornado (all open); and Yngling (women).
The 2008 Olympic Games are scheduled for August 8-24 in Beijing, China.
The Olympic Regatta will be held in Qingdao, a coastal city located 430
miles east of Beijing.

Scoring: |
-
Must sail, must count all
events as specified for each class above.
-
Final finish position (not
net points) counts towards Series Standings.
-
Low Point Series Scoring
using RRS rule A4.1, except that Final Finish Position will be
used instead of individual race scores. RRS rules
A4.2 and A9 are specifically NOT in force for the series
scoring.
-
All boats count as place
holders in the Final Finish Position. (Men, Women, Mixed,
International)
-
If there is a series score
tie between two or more boats, the tie shall be broken in favor
of the boat with the better finish at Rolex Miami OCR.
-
If less than
three
eligible teams or individuals compete in the minimum number of
events to qualify for the team, the Olympic Sailing Committee
may name fewer than
three
teams or
individuals to the Team.
Additional Scoring Policies
for multi crewed classes
-
In order to count towards
series score, helm and crew members must be eligible to
represent the USA in the 2008 Olympic Games.
-
Double-handed teams are
required to sail with the same helm and crew at all of the
qualifying events that are counted towards the ranking. For
triple-handed teams, two of the three sailors, including the
helm must be the same at all of the qualifying events that are
counted towards the ranking.
-
In extremely unusual
circumstances such as a medical emergency, the OSC ExCom may
approve an exception to this policy.
Non Events
-
If an event fails to
constitute a series as specified in the respective Notice of
Race, then the remaining events will count for the Team
Standings (except that for Star if the NA's fails to constitute
a series, then the Pre Trials and Miami OCR are the remaining
events). For all classes, if Miami OCR fails to constitute
a series, then the tie breaker will become the last event
scheduled in the series.
|
NOTE:
The ranking system for the 2007 US Sailing Team also determines the
athletes who will be selected to compete in the:
- 2007 Olympic Test event, scheduled for
August 2007 in China
- 2007 ISAF Sailing World
Championships in Cascais, Portugal
- Any other 2007 event with
limited entries other than the Pan Am Games (e.g. Hyeres has a
maximum of 8 entries per class per MNA)
