The 2006 World Sailing Games, held at Lake Neusiedl in Austria from May 10-20, are set to be a spectacular sailing event. More than 700 sailors from over 60 countries will compete for 10 World Championship titles in front of an expected 100,000 visitors. The first ISAF World Sailing Championship was held in La Rochelle, FRA in 1994, with subsequent events held in Dubai, UAE in 1998 and in Marseille, FRA in 2002 when the name of the event was changed to ISAF World Sailing Games.

US SAILING has announced the team of 40 athletes who will represent the USA at the 2006 International Sailing Federation (ISAF) World Sailing Games. Made up of well-known sailors including US Sailing Team-members and World Champions, the U.S. Team will compete against over 700 sailors from more than 60 nations for ten World Championship titles: Men’s One Person Dinghy, Women’s One Person Dinghy, Men’s Windsurfer, Women’s Windsurfer, Men’s Two Person Dinghy, Women’s Two Person Dinghy, Men’s Multihull, Women’s Multihull and Open two-boat Team Sailing.

Members of the U.S. Team were selected using a qualification system announced last year or were invited by the ISAF organizers based on an entry system outlined in the Notice of Race. US Sailing Team High Performance Director and Head Coach Gary Bodie will serve as the team leader and coach. US Sailing Team Coach Skip Whyte will join Bodie as coach.

The equipment used in the event is chosen by ISAF as representing the most popular types worldwide and is supplied by the manufacturers for the duration of the event, except for the 49er. 49er sailors will be supplied with sails, but must bring their own boat.  The equipment is circulated among the competitors between each group of races to ensure unprecedented fairness.
