2001
US Mistral Ranking System
Using CORK 2000, and the 2001
Miami OCR and ABYC OCR events, the 2001 team qualifying scoring system
for men and women will be as follows:
Fleet scoring will be used for all events. The event score for each
athlete will be his or her final place in the fleet divided by the total
number of competitors in the fleet. For example, if Joe Blow finished
10th out of 20 in the fleet, his score would be 10/20=.5. An athlete
will receive a nonparticipating score of 1.33 for not attending an
event. For example, if Joe Blow skips Miami, he receives a 1.33 for
Miami. The best 2 out of the 3 scores will be summed for the athlete's
final series score. For example, if Joe Blow gets a .5 in CORK, a 1.33
in Miami, and a .4 at ABYC, his final series score will be .5+.4=.9. The
5 lowest scorers, each male and female, will be placed on the 2001 US
Sailing Team.
Gebi and Lanee, as our Olympic representatives, will receive an
automatic score for CORK. Their CORK score be the average of their Miami
and ABYC scores. Therefore, if Gebi and/or Lanee were to attend only one
other event, the CORK score would be a 1.33 averaged with the event
score. However, this is better than receiving a 1.33 for CORK.

2001
US Tornado Ranking System
The US Tornado Association Ranking System will be used to nominate the
crews for the 2001 US SAILING Team. The
Ranking Period, which normally ends on December 31, will include results
from the 2001 Miami OCR. The nominations for the Team
will be made at the end of the Miami OCR.
The Ranking System counts the best scores from each of three levels of
competition throughout the calendar year. A Level I Event is defined as
a regatta consisting of a minimum of three races scored in which five or
more Tornados have competed, or a series race consisting of a minimum of
three races in which for each day’s racing at least five Tornados have
competed. A Level II Event is defined as a regatta consisting of a
minimum of four races scored in which 10 or more Tornados have competed.
A Level III Event is defined as a regatta with a minimum of four races
scored that meets one of the following criteria:
(a) World Championship, Continental Championship, or US National
Championship
(b) A regatta in which at least 20 Tornados have competed
The rankings points earned from a regatta or series are calculated by
using the following formula:

X = 25 for Level I Event, 50 for Level II Event, or 100 for Level
III Event
Y = competitor’s total score excluding throwouts
Yprime = best minimum score excluding throwouts
Z = maximum score excluding throwouts
A competitor's total rankings points = Best Level III + Best Level II
+ Best Level I. A higher level event may be downgraded to a lower level
event by taking a percentage of the score:
Level III score x 50% = Level II score
Level III score x 25% = Level I score
Level II score x 50% = Level I score
When there is a tie on total rankings points between two or more
competitors, the tie will be broken in favor of the competitor who
finished ahead of the other or others the most in Level III events in
which they competed against each other. If this does not break the tie,
then repeat the procedure for Level II events and then Level I events
until the tie is broken. When the tie still remains, it shall stand as
part of the final results.

US Yngling Ranking System
The 2001 US SAILING Team for the Yngling class will be determined by
the following two regattas:
Jul 10-12 North Americans Newport, RI
Jul 13-15 Newport Regatta Newport, RI
Both Events Count. Final finishing position (adjusted) in each event
added together. Only all women's teams count in the adjusted final
finishing position. International all-women, men’s and
mixed teams count in any given race, but will be eliminated from the
adjusted final finishing position for the regatta, with women's teams
moving up accordingly in the final adjusted standings. Tie breaker is
who beat who in the second event. Top five US women's boats make
the team.
