| Held every two years since 1959, the World University Games is open to student-athletes
between the ages of 17 and 28 who must be registered for a full course study at a
university, or have obtained their degrees within a year of the Games. The United States
entered the World University Games in for the first time in 1965. As an event, sailing
makes its debut at the '99 World University Games.
