MISSION STATEMENT

The Offshore Teams, Offshore One-Design & Level Racing Committee has two primary missions. First is to select and coordinate U.S. offshore teams for international events that require nomination of a national team and to assist selected team members in their preparation for competition in international team events including provision of team management and training support when required. Second is to support the activities of and provide a forum for representatives from offshore one-design and level classes active in the United States, to coordinate the efforts and assist representatives of US SAILING participating in World and Regional Championships of the ORC and ISAF offshore classes and to monitor the activities of, and provide liaison to, the ISAF Offshore One-Design Classes Committee, the ORC Offshore Classes Committee and other active offshore classes not affiliated with ISAF or the ORC.

TEAM EVENTS IN 2003

There are no international team events scheduled in 2003 that are inviting national teams.  

ADMIRAL’S CUP 2003. The only international team event currently scheduled for 2003 is the Admiral’s Cup and the format for that event has been changed. The Race Notice for the Admiral’s Cup 2003 advises that challenges are now being accepted from any “Club affiliated to a Member National Authority.” “A Club may challenge with only one team.” “Yacht Clubs (recognized by a Member National Authority) may send one team per club. There is no restriction on number of Clubs per country.” “Each team will consist of two boats: 1 x IMS600 boat in accordance with Class Rules. 1 x IRC (Endorsed) boat with a TCC of between 1.280 and 1.600, DLR less than 120 as shown on IRC (Endorsed) certificate, LOA greater than 15.15 m and Hull factor greater than 9.9.

COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP:

The Offshore Teams, Offshore One-Design & Level Classes Committee consists of 7 members representing the offshore teams element and the various offshore one-design and level classes currently active in the United States. The 2003 membership is as follows:

OFFSHORE TEAMS

  • Ken Morrison has been involved with every USA Admiral's Cup Team effort since 1983. He was team manager for the 1983, 1985 and 1987 Admiral's Cup Teams and served as the racing rules advisor for the Admiral's Cup Teams from 1989 to 1999. Ken also coordinates the activities of team selection for the Kenwood Cup Teams.

  • Don Genitempo is the immediate past chair of the committee, having served in that capacity from 1988 to 1997. He was Team Manager for the USA Admiral's Cup Teams in 1989, 1991, 1995 and the winning team in 1997. He continues to serve as the financial manager for the Team. Don also chairs the Offshore Classes Committee on the Offshore Racing Council.

  • Talbot Wilson has been involved with USA Admiral's Cup Team administration in 1991, 1995 and 1997. He served as shore support manager for the Team in 1999. 

Offshore One-Design & Level Classes:

  • Gene McCarthy is the Olympic Athlete representative to the committee. 
  • Jim Richardson is the representative for the Farr 40 One-Design Class
  • Nelson Stephenson is the representative for the Mumm 30 Class.
  • Larry Bulman is the representative for the IMS 50 Class.
