Sail Days

Todd Pesek, C Scow

Jacomo Sailing Club has what we call "Sail Days ". we have three events scheduled that are called Open sail, Lake Fest and Fun Sail days. These are our clubs equivalent of an open house, but with boats. We bring out several of the different fleet boats (one-design) to show to people who are interested in the club, and take them out for a spin. This is an excellent opportunity for to see what the racing boats look like up close, and to get a feel for how they sail.

Buddy Program

  • Outline for the sailing Buddy Volunteers

  • Give these members guidance in club/fleet structure.

  • Let these members know of JSC resources.

  • Make sure they receive their GAM and Roster.

  • Learn what these members expect from the club.

  • Encourage these members to participate in sailing.

  • Explain crewing opportunities.

  • Make sure they are aware of the social events.

  • Help them find boats in the established fleets.

  • Make them aware of the training opportunities of the club.

  • Help maintain contact with the member.

  • Develop the member into an active full participating member.

  • Encourage them to visit JSC web site and join our community email.

  • Do not press to hard and break off contact if the member requests it.

  • Limit phone/email contact to the member through the buddy only.

Report the following to the club;

  • Inform club/fleet that there is follow up with the member and the above information has been given.

  • Get feed back from the member and forward to the club/fleet.

Area sporting and boat shows

We obtain free space at the Kansas City sports how and the KC boat show. This allows us to make contact with a wider range of people and begin our exposure to the general public. we have averaged about 15-20 people signing up for our sailing classes each year and have added 3-5 member each year to the club. Remember it is a numbers issue the more exposure the more the word is spread about sailing. In our area sailing is usually off the map as an activity for most of the public.
