US SAILOR Of The
Week Karl Kleinschrodt |
What do you do when you've been a sailor through high school and are about to go to a college that doesn't have a sailing team? You do exactly what Karl Kleinschrodt did. This Mobile, Alabama, native and sailor since he was born, hit the ground running when he entered the University of Southern Alabama. In a matter of months, Karl put together a competitive sailing team, began fundraising to purchase boats, and secured a sailing location for the team to use. Now, just a few years later, the team is a proud owner of eight FJs and a Yankee 38. Under Karl's leadership, the University of Southern Alabama has become a force to be reckoned with on the national college sailing circuit. Now that he's getting ready to graduate, he doesn't need to worry about the future of his team: his younger brother Paul will be taking over the reigns. But don't think Karl will be out of the picture, he'll still go sailing with the team for fun. "What else am I going to do after work?" |
