US SAILOR Of The
Week Jim Capron |
You've probably seen Jim Capron on the race course once or twice, but most likely he was not a fellow competitor. Jim, a US SAILING certified Senior Judge and ISAF International Judge who hails from Annapolis, MD, has seen countless races from a different perspective than most sailors. Just a week ago, he was part of the International Jury for the start of leg 6 of the Volvo Ocean Race from Annapolis to New York. Over the years, Jim has traveled across the globe as a sailing judge. A long-time sailor himself, Jim began sailing when he was about 13 years old when a friend took him out on a Penguin. It didn't take long for Jim to get hooked, he soon built a wooden boat in shop class and sailed it on the Chesapeake Bay. Owner of Capron Company, an engineering and HVAC services company, Jim still finds time to sail his Etchells. One of the joys he gets out of sailing, he says, is that there's nothing like taking your mind off work to focus on beating your competitors on the race course, and then meeting up with them at the club afterwards. |
