US SAILORS Of The
Week Alex and Daria Blackwell |
Alex and Daria Blackwell love spending time on the water, going out on their Bowman 57 whenever they can. Logging about 2,000 miles cruising per season, this couple has seen quite a few interesting places around the world. And now that they've recently obtained their U.S. Coast Guard Captain's licenses, they're one step closer to reaching their goal of cruising full time. There are many sailors out there like Alex and Daria, but what makes this couple unique is their tremendous dedication to helping others. Through their home club of American Yacht Club in Rye, NY, Alex and Daria became involved in a fundraising program for the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital. And now, the Blackwells' initiative of taking some of the hospital's young patients and their parents out sailing for a day has changed the lives of many. The event is now dubbed the "Sail4Kids Make A Memory Cruise" and was once again a success this summer, with numerous boat owners taking children out on the water with their parents. Friendships were made, smiles were everywhere, and everyone went home with great new memories and a love of sailing. |
