Hurricane Katrina left behind a path
of destruction in the summer of 2005

(August 23, 2006) - Do you know what the difference is between a hurricane watch and a hurricane warning? We're currently in the midst of hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to November 30. As we approach the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, which caused tremendous damage along the Gulf Coast last year, US SAILING and its insurance partners Gowrie, Barden & Brett and Chubb Group of Insurance Companies would like to advise sailing organizations to be prepared for a hurricane. Sailing organizations can help to mitigate their loss in the event of a major catastrophe by having prepared a disaster plan that is updated and tested regularly. To help yacht clubs, community sailing programs and other sailing organizations prepare for a hurricane, Chubb has created a helpful document with recommendations on how best to prepare.
