ISAF 1998 AGM Meeting Report
MULTIHULL COMMITTEE
Class Rule changes were approved for:
A-Class Catamaran: After several years of much discussion and balloting, the
class finally approved an all-up weight limit of 75 kg.
Hobie Classes: Some minor rule changes and one more significant, housekeeping
change were approved. The significant change was to approve the specification of CompTip
Hobie 17 masts for competition in the geographic region of Australia. The change was
needed in order to bring the rules into line with actuality. Class Rules initially
specified aluminum masts although mast supplied with Hobie 17s in Australia have always
been Comp Tips. These rule changes are effective January 1, 1999, in order to apply to the
1999 World Championships to be held in Australia.
Hobie Tiger: Recommended and approved for ISAF Recognized status.
Open 60 Multihull: Recommended and approved for ISAF Recognized status.
Multihull Observation Trials: The Multihull Committee accepted the idea of
"Observation Trials" to showcase various multihulls. The Events Committee later
recommended that these Trials be expanded to include an observation for single-handed
boats (they were thinking dinghies, but multihulls not necessarily excluded). The timing,
status and purpose of these Trials were discussed by Council and have been referred to the
Executive Committee for further direction. Additional parameters specified by the
Multihull Committee included: Any Trials should include the current Olympic equipment.
Boats should be suitable for men and/or women crews.
