I. Chat Room: The Multihull Council set up a Chat Room
concurrent with the Multihull Council Meeting. We
had participation from across the country and both coasts.
This was an attempt to give a presence for a broad base of support by people who
could not come to the US SAILING meeting.
II. Budget: The Multihull Council is seeking guidance from
various committees on how to generate revenue for our budget. We have no source of revenue now. We are looking at the possibility of working with the
YMCA access grant money and the possibility of working with an independent grant writer.
III. Fast and Fun Youth Program: We discussed the budget which represents donated
funds for this year only. We determined that there is sufficient funds to cover
our obligations through the year 2000.
A motion was made and seconded to establish a
line item on the budget to support the Fast and Fun Youth Program. The motion passed
unanimously.
IV. US Amateur, Inc.: William Rennie gave the Multihull Council a
presentation on the benefits of this Sports Marketing and Travel Benefits program.
V. PHRF: Offshore Multihulls are making a big splash around
the country, due in large part to the use of the
PHRF rating system with which race organizers are familiar. Participation is ever
increasing. There was discussion regarding
race organizers' decision to disallow multihulls in the Key West Race Week event.
60 folding trimarans
participated in the Corsair Nationals held at Pensacola, Florida, in Spring 1999. A greater attendance is expected for the next week long
event to be held in April at Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
VI. Trap Seat: Miles Moore, representing the Trap Seat Class
Association, gave a presentation on how the Hobie 16, with the adaptation of the Trap
Seat, can be used by disabled sailors to experience the thrill of sailing and racing
multihulls. The Multihull Council welcomes the Trap
Seat Class to join with us to help further the goals of
their Association to increase participation at all levels.
VII. Membership:
The Multihull Council invited Nel Roberts to attend our meeting. Ms. Roberts reported on the current status of her
endeavors to reorganize the Membership Department of US SAILING. We worked on a plan with Ms. Roberts to identify all the
members in US SAILING that sail multihulls. Ms.
Roberts also agreed to locate the credits due to the MHC under its Golden Anchor Program.
VIII.
Golden Anchor Program: Darline Hobock is
working with Jamie Diamond and Nel Roberts to search and locate multihull members through
the office Access program.
The Multihull Council is proud to announce that
we will initiate a membership drive for the year 2000-2001.
It's our goal to increase Multihull membership in US SAILING by 50%.
IX. Championships: Vice President Dave Rosekrans attended our meeting
along with our championship Chairman, Steve Leo. A
discussion ensued regarding the actual mechanics with regard to the recent restructuring
of US SAILING Championships. As far as the Alter
Cup event is concerned, nothing has really changed.
We want to announce that the Alter Cup event will be held April 4-8 at Alamitos Bay Yacht
Club, California, on Hobie 20s.
X. Youth Championship: The Multihull Council is taking a leadership role
to establish a Youth Multihull Championship event.
A motion was made and seconded to develop a
Youth Multihull Championship in conjunction with the Alter Cup in the year 2001-2002. The motion was passed unanimously.
Respectfully
Submitted,
Deborah K. Schaefer, Secretary
(Minutes of the
Multihull Council Meeting will be posted on the MHC website at a later date.)
