| US
SAILING's Multihull Council and US Windsurfing have combined forces to offer children an
introduction to sailing as a fun sport. Fast and Fun
is designed for children 8-80 years old who are not necessarily involved in
a sailing program or may never have the opportunity to be exposed to
sailing. The program is fully funded by donations; there is no cost for the
participants. |
The program has eight Hobie Waves
and eight Mistral Windgliders.
New this year is a Hobie Dragoon
specifically designed for youth training with spinnaker and trapeze. These
vessels are easy for beginning sailors and simple for instructors to teach
with. Our trailer is in
California this summer and we will attend events up and down the west coast
putting on special opportunities for children, even regattas, whenever
asked.
We
solicit volunteers from the local area at each event to help introduce
sailing to children. We will also work with these volunteers to offer a
complete package of "How-To" so they can start a youth training program of
their own.
|
|
In order to make this fun program succeed, we need volunteers from multihull and
windsurfer fleets in each area, who will be led by qualified US SAILING instructors.
