SAILING Multihull Area Representative Responsibilities
1. Area
Representatives are liaison from Multihull community to US SAILING through the Multihull
Council. Issues for the Council will come through you.
2. Commit to attend
Multihull Council meetings. Area representatives are members of Multihull Council
Executive Committee. This is a voting position for council activities.
3. Work with Area
Sailing Associations/Yacht Racing Associations and yacht clubs to promote Multihull
sailing and further relations between Multihull sailors and traditional yacht clubs. Many
clubs have a lot to offer in the way of facilities, personnel and training for juniors.
4. Promote membership
in US SAILING to individuals and organizations to apply for membership in Multihull
Council and to send representatives to Council meetings.
5. Represent Council
on one of US SAILING’s committees in order to maintain a presence within US SAILING
and to protect interests of Multihull community.
6. Arrange and oversee
Area elimination races for US SAILING Multihull Championship (for the Alter Cup).
This includes:

Prepare Notice of Race for Area eliminations and forward
to the Alter Cup web liaison or information on where to link for the NOR

Make sure regatta
chairman adheres to the Alter Cup Notice of Race, Conditions and Sailing Instructions.
Distribute the Notice of Race as needed to class associations, clubs and competitors in
your Area or explain where documents can be downloaded from Alter Cup
website.

Eliminate any
conflicts between locally obtained sponsors and contracts already obtained through US
SAILING. Note: Title sponsorship cannot be given for a US SAILING championship event.

Assure use of US
SAILING Portsmouth wind related handicap numbers.

Invite a US SAILING
qualified judge to officiate at the Area Elimination for the Alter Cup. This
individual would be considered chief judge and at least two other judges may
be invited from the local level to serve in conjunction with the chief
judge. In the event a US SAILING qualified judge is not available, local
individuals
with extensive judging experience should be considered with preference given
to US SAILING members.

Supply host club
with Golden Anchor membership forms and assure that ALL participants are members of US SAILING.

Attend Area
qualifier to resolve any problems arising during event.

Forward copies of
order of finish form and first, second and third place qualifier’s entry form to Alter Cup
Chairman, the US SAILING Championship Committee, Race Chairman for the finals and the
qualifying helmsman in a timely fashion before published deadline. Make sure
results and report are forwarded promptly to Alter Cup web liaison. Include
photos if available.

Forward complete
set of results including class of boat, average wind velocity and raw times to Darline
Hobock of Portsmouth Committee.

Participate in
awards ceremony at Area event. Use this opportunity to explain and promote Alter Cup.

Keep Alter Cup book
containing correspondence, fliers, posters, press release records, etc. of event. This
becomes the basis of your Alter Cup activity report at Multihull Council Meeting.
Area Representatives are elected for 2 year terms at the
Multihull Council meeting in October: Areas
A, C, E, F, and J in even
numbered years and Areas B, D, G, H and K in odd numbered years. |
