LOGO AND NAME USAGE____________________________________________

Members of US SAILING are encouraged, at their discretion, to use the standard US SAILING logo, or US SAILING name, banners, flags, or burgee in a non-commercial way to promote the organization's visibility within the sport and to the general public and promote a positive, healthy image. This use does not imply any endorsement by US SAILING for the associated activity.

Corporate sponsors and licensees may use the US SAILING name and/or logos for commercial purposes, if the purposes are approved in advance by the US SAILING Portsmouth, RI Office. Unless expressly agreed to by US SAILING in writing, use does not imply endorsement, accreditation, or sponsorship of US SAILING. Administration of the logo use by corporate sponsors and licensees is the responsibility of the Communications Department. Any variations on these logo and name usage guidelines must be approved by the US SAILING Communications Department.

Organizations engaged in sailing instruction must receive approval in writing from the Training Director before using the US SAILING logo on any publications.

The success of the US SAILING image and identity system lies in the correct usage of the logo in all applications. Deviations from this standard undermine this program.

Requirements

  • The United States Sailing Association's only other official name is US SAILING (note the ALL CAPS). Do not use any other variation.

  • If not using "US SAILING," United States Sailing Association, Inc. must be spelled out in its entirety.

  • Unacceptable uses of the US SAILING name include: US Sailing, USSA, US Sailing Association, United States Sailing Assoc., US SAIL, US Sailing Assoc., and any other variation.

  • US SAILING may appear in bold (US SAILING) at any time. It may also appear in italics (US SAILING) as long as it is not in italics in a document that uses italics for publication names or article titles, etc.

Printing Standards

  • Use only camera-ready stats or computer-produced files for printing.

  • For two-color logos, have camera-ready logo "color broken" by printer or request "color separated" film from US SAILING.

  • Electronic logo files are available from US SAILING Communications Department.

  • Never use second generation copies or faxed reproductions of logo for final copy.

  • Always check proofs for clarity in definition and color accuracy of printed logo.

Orientation
The US SAILING logo should always appear horizontal from left to right, with words horizontal and fully legible. Do not rotate the US SAILING logo in any way.

Screens or Shading
The US SAILING logo should always appear in full volume color. It should never appear as a screen and should never be shaded.

Color
A color theme for the US SAILING logo has been established. As such, unless otherwise approved by US SAILING in writing, the logo must only be printed in the regulation colors:

Four-color reproduction (CMYK):
Blue: 100%C, 56%M, 0%Y, 34%K
Red: 0%C, 100%M, 65%Y, 34%K

If the US SAILING logo is to be printed in a solid color, only black, gold, silver, or other metallic may be used, unless otherwise approved in writing by US SAILING's Communications Department.

The US SAILING logo may be reversed out (all white).

Since many factors influence color match, i.e. ink, stock, press, etc., you must visually match the colors. Background colors in medium to dark values and in gray tones are encouraged when using the logo in reverse.

Borders and Design
Do not frame the US SAILING logo or use it as a design element. The US SAILING logo should always stand-alone.

Distortion and Parts
Do not distort the US SAILING logo in any way. Also, do not take the logo apart and use its components; the stripes, sail shape, and wording must remain together.

Design Manipulation
The US SAILING logo should never be manipulated or its original design altered in any way.

Size Specifications
The US SAILING logo should never appear in print smaller that one inch by one inch. Any exceptions must be approved by the Communications Department.

GUIDELINES FOR ADVERTISING AND BROCHURES_________________________
