Competitors Selected for '08 U.S. Youth Championship
National and local organizers of the 2008 U.S. Youth Championship Monday reached another mile-mark in preparation for the premier youth sailing event in the country: the list of 196 sailors who applied to compete in the event has now been narrowed down to the country's top 150 youth sailors (based on sailing resume). This year's event will be hosted by San Francisco Yacht Club (Belvedere, CA) from June 26 to July 1. Sponsored by Nautica and LaserPerformance, racing will be held in Laser, Laser Radial, Club 420, and 29er.
For members of the selection committee, it was particularly difficult to narrow down the pool of sailors who applied to compete in the Laser Radial and the Club 420 fleets: less than half of the applicants in those two classes were selected to compete in the Championship.
The 150 sailors who have been accepted now have until midnight on May 15 Eastern time to respond to the invitation to compete.

US SAILOR of the Week - Jamie Livingston
For Jamie Livingston of Jupiter, FL, it's all about the kids. Try to get him talking about his own experience and accomplishments, and you end up talking about the kids he teaches. "The amount of kids we've had go through our program is my biggest accomplishment," Jamie says, referring to the youth sailing program at Miami Yacht Club where he is the multihull coach. He regularly drives south from his home in Jupiter 90 minutes one-way to coach and teach. "I don't mind, it's a program I've been part of since I was a kid. It's like being home." He recently raced 18 miles with two kids from his program. Jamie allowed his 15-year-old crew to steer the entire race...
