Leading the sport of sailing for 110 years

Hat Trick For Barkow at US SAILING's Rolex International Women's Keelboat Championship

For the third straight time, Sally Barkow (Nashotah, WI) has won US SAILING’s Rolex International Women’s Keelboat Championship. Racing took place November 14-17 out of Houston Yacht Club in Shoreacres, Texas. At the gala Rolex Awards ceremony held on the last day of racing, Barkow and her crew of Debbie Capozzi (Bayport, NY), Amanda Callahan (Canton, MA) and Annie Lush (Poole, England) were awarded with US SAILING’s Bengt Julin Trophy and a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Stainless Steel & Gold Datejust, presented by Colette Bennett, National Sports Marketing Manager of Rolex Watch U.S.A.

In second place overall was Cory Sertl (Rochester, NY), a two-time Rolex IWKC champion and US SAILING Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year. Going into the final day, she was in third place and had to put enough places between her boat and Derby Anderson (Annapolis, MD) and Anna Tunnicliffe (Plantation, FL). At the end of the last day, she achieved her goal and finished second, while Tunnicliffe finished third overall and Anderson fourth.

But he doesn't sail to simply de-stress from the pressure-cooker pace of working in financial markets: "I love the challenge of sailing," he says. And it's that lifelong-learning quality of the sport he hopes to pass on to the next generation...

Last Chance to Help Shape Sailing History
This coming Friday, November 30, is the deadline for nominations for US SAILING's Rolex Yachtsman and Yachtswoman of the Year awards. Since US SAILING first created the Yachtsman and Yachtswoman of the Year awards in 1961, the most notable competitors in American sailing have been honored with the distinction. Sponsored by Rolex Watch U.S.A. since 1980 and increasingly coveted with time, the awards reward excellence through outstanding on-the-water achievement. As a US SAILING member, you can help shape sailing history. Share in the naming of this year's winners by nominating your choices for US SAILING's 2007 Rolex Yachtsman and Yachtswoman of the Year.
