NYYC Silver Panda Successfully Defends U.S. Team Racing Championship
It all came down to the final day and the final race at the U.S. Team Racing Championship at Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club in Oyster Bay, NY, last Sunday, as the sun was setting over Oyster Bay Harbor. Long-time rivals NYYC Silver Panda and WHishbone faced each other on the starting lines once again in the finals. And again they didn't disappoint viewers who enjoy a thrill. WHishbone got the early lead by winning the first race, but NYYC Silver Panda - the defending champions and reigning world champions - came back with a vengeance in the next two races, to win the title and take home US SAILING's Hinman Trophy once again.
It took three intense days of racing and over 200 races in total among the country's best 22 teams to get to this point. The final day of the regatta brought beautiful 70-degree summer-like weather to Oyster Bay, home of Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club, host of the regatta, and 0-10 knots of wind.

US SAILOR of the Week - Luis Hornos
|
|
 Luis Hornos |
Imagine this: you live in a country in the southern hemisphere and travel the world sailing regattas. You frequently sail in the U.S. and love the sailing there because there are just so many different parts of the country in which you can sail. So, what do you do? You pick up your stuff and move there. That's exactly what Luis Hornos did. He loves sailing so much, he moved his family - wife, daughter and son - from Buenos Aires, Argentina, all the way to the Unites States so they could enjoy more of it. They settled in Swamscott, MA, near Marblehead, because Luis' brother lived in that area. Back home, Luis had been a National Champion in several one-design boats...

Lauderdale, FL), managed to pull off the win at the U.S. Championship of Champions, which wrapped up at Mission Bay Yacht Club in San Diego, CA, last Saturday. The regatta's race committee put together 19 races over three days, despite some weather challenges the weather gods provided, and the racing among the 19 teams was intense throughout the event which saw several lead changes.
