School Is Out, Summer Is In
USA Junior Olympic Sailing Festival Season
Kicks Off With Three Events in June
Across the country, young sailors are getting ready to put away their school backpacks and pull out their sailing clothes and life jackets to enjoy another summer sailing season on the water. The 11th season of US SAILING's USA Junior Olympic Sailing Festival (JO) program kicks off in June with three events. Typical of the JO program, the June events are hosted by sailing organizations throughout the country: Florida, Colorado, and Michigan. With support from sponsors West Marine, Gill, and Active.com, US SAILING’s JO program is designed to give young sailors between the ages of 8 and 21 the opportunity to learn, enjoy the fun and excitement of competitive sailing, and develop skills for a lifelong involvement in the sport.

Toby Baker

US SAILOR of The Week - Toby Baker
When Tabor Academy won the Inter-Scholastic Sailing Association's Team Racing Championship this past weekend, Toby Baker was thrilled. Not only was he once that school's sailing team coach for over 20 years (he retired in 2000), the event's Trophy is named after him. Toby knows a thing or two about coaching: his career as high school sailing coach spans over three decades. In fact, he could very well be one of the country's most successful high school sailing coaches, teams he coached have won countless regattas (including the High School Doublehanded Championship - Mallory Trophy - four times in six years while he was coaching Tabor Academy's sailing team). But winning is not what it's all about for Toby.
