Meet the Newest Member of the
US Disabled Sailing Team
While the athletes of the 2007 US Disabled Sailing Team (USDST) have long been named, a new member was recently added to the team. His name is Morrow and, according to his owner US Disabled Sailing Team Coach Betsy Alison, he's quickly learning the ropes – although not literally trimming the sails like the other sailors.

Morrow II is an assistance dog that will travel with the Team to events and training camps across the United States. Betsy, a five-time US SAILING Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year and two-time Yngling World Champion, has just finished a comprehensive training program with Morrow, a Lab/Golden Retriever mix. US SAILING caught up with Betsy to find out how her new four-legged teammate will play a key role on the USDST.

US SAILOR of The Week - Joey Harris
Like so many other sailors, Joey Harris - the Sailing Program Director at the Lake Forest, IL, Parks and Recreation Department - is looking forward to this long holiday weekend. He'll be traveling to New Orleans, along with sailors of the Lake Forest High School team he coaches, having qualified for the first time for the High School Team Racing Championship. When he returns, he will have just a few more weeks to get prepared for the summer season, when some several hundred kids will pass through his program sailing dinghies, a keelboat and the newest addition to the fleet – sailboards.

Celebrating National Safe Boating Week - May 19-25
Sailors and powerboaters across the country are looking forward to spending time on the water this upcoming Memorial Day Weekend. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, more than 70,000,000 Americans enjoy recreational boating each year. Annual boat registrations have increased steadily from just over 10 million in 1988 to nearly 13 million in 2005. During this same time period, boating-related fatalities have decreased, due in part to increased use of life jackets, also known as personal flotation devices (PFD). This year's North American Safe Boating Campaign promotes the use of life jackets.
