US Sailing Team Wins Gold, Bronze at Princess Sofia Trophy Regatta in Spain

For the second year in a row, the USA Yngling team of Sally Barkow (Chenequa, WI), Debbie Capozzi (Bayport, NY) and Carrie Howe (Grosse Pointe, MI) won the 2007 Princess Sofia Trophy in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. In a competitive fleet of 36 entries, Barkow and her team battled fluky and frustrating conditions to ultimately finish in first place Friday. In the 470 Women’s class, fellow US Sailing Team members Erin Maxwell (Stonington, CT) and Isabelle Kinsolving (New York, NY) secured third place in a fleet of 71 entries. This event was the first of several major European regattas that the US Sailing Team and other top Olympic contenders will compete at this spring. Next up is the Semaine Olympique Française de Voile (French Olympic Sailing Week), which begins April 19 in Hyères, France.

Olin Stephens

US SAILOR of The Week - Olin Stephens
Don’t tell Olin Stephens that this Friday the 13th is an unlucky day – after all, it is his 99th birthday. But before that happens, the world-renowned yacht designer headed south from his home in New Hampshire to Rhode Island to visit one of his first successes, the 52-foot yawl, Dorade, which is being restored to its former glory. Olin designed Dorade in his early 20s and in so doing, launched a new era of yacht design. Olin went on to design many of the America’s Cup defenders, including the J-class boat Ranger. His firm Sparkman and Stephens also designed the 12-metres Columbia, Constellation, Freedom, Intrepid and Courageous.

What Does Regatta Liability Insurance Mean?
With countless sailing organizations opening up their doors for the summer sailing season, it's time to ensure that your local club or one-design class has the appropriate insurance coverage. Many clubs and classes have Regatta Liability Insurance, but do you know what that covers? Does that include on-shore activities, boat launching, parking, or borrowed boats?
