U.S. Youth Multihull Championship: Floridians Take the Title

California must have cured whatever ailed Alexander Stewart and Evan Miller as the Panama City, FL, sailors won the U.S. Youth Multihull Championship for US SAILING's Arthur J. Stevens Trophy last Saturday and Sunday. Eighteen teams competed on new Nacra SL16 catamarans in conjunction with host Alamitos Bay Yacht Club's annual Olympic Classes Regatta. US SAILING President Jim Capron was on hand during the event's opening ceremonies on Friday to welcome the competitors of the National Championship. The youngsters - boys and girls ages 13 to 18 - sailed inside the breakwater and enjoyed Long Beach's fresh sea breeze of 10 of 12 knots all weekend.

US SAILOR of The Week - Glenn Hallett
Glenn Hallett fell in love with E-scows as a young boy growing up in Midland, MI. His lifelong dream to own and race one became a reality when he started crewing on scows and then bought one seven years ago. Now, he and his wife Kris race most every weekend of the summer at the Torch Lake Yacht and Country Club in Bellaire, MI. When the E-boats aren’t sailing, you will find him doing race committee for the MC-scow and Butterfly fleets, which often include his wife, daughter Jacqueline and son Charles.

US Sailing Team Spotlight - Princess Sofia Trophy Regatta
In Palma de Mallorca, Spain, thirty members (18 teams) of the US Sailing Team have battled cold, fluky and frustrating conditions during the first few days of racing at the Princess Sofia Trophy Regatta, one of six regattas in the ISAF World Cup Series. The event began on Saturday and runs through Friday.  Today, the fleets were divided into Gold and Silver, and in some classes, Bronze, with the best sailors in the Gold group. US Sailing Team members are showing strong performances midway through the regatta.

Spring is the Time to Check for Powerline Hazards
Your sailing organization is hosting a regatta this summer, or expanding its dry sail area to include a new class. As you prepare for the hectic summer sailing season, now is the time to take a look around the property or the regatta venue for overhead powerline hazards. Make sure that the launch ramps, staging areas and parking lots don't have any overhead problems. Contact your local utility company to have a powerline moved. If your regatta is held in a public park, contact the park managers. Prevent accidents before they happen.
