ENCOURAGING PARTICIPATION AND PROMOTING EXCELLENCE
IN SAILING
ONE DAY LEFT TO HELP SHAPE SAILING HISTORY US SAILING members have until Thursday-night 11:59
p.m. Eastern (Nov. 30) to help shape sailing history by making a nomination
for US SAILING's Rolex Yachtsman and Yachtswoman of the Year awards. Since
US SAILING first created the Yachtsman and Yachtswoman of the Year awards in
1961, the biggest names in American sailing have been honored with the
distinction. Sponsored by Rolex Watch U.S.A. since 1980 and increasingly
coveted with time, the awards reward excellence through outstanding
on-the-water achievement.

When skipper Clint Hodges went into diabetic shock and fell overboard while
racing his Y-Flyer out of Atlanta Yacht Club, GA, his crew Katherine Hallet
took quick action by pulling Hodges back on board. Noticing the erratic
sailing of the boat, fellow Y-Flyer sailors Robert and Holly Gregory
suspected something might be wrong and stepped in to help. Robert boarded
the boat, steadied the situation and sailed the boat back to the dock where
Clint was given emergency aid and recovered. For their heroic action,
Katherine Hallet and Robert & Holly Gregory have received US SAILING's
Arthur B. Hanson Rescue Medal.
