IN SAILING
DEB CAPOZZI LEADS TEAM TO U.S. WOMEN'S MATCH RACING CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE By the time the teams for the finals of the U.S.
Women's Match Racing Championship got to the starting line last
Saturday, spectators were in for a treat, and the finalists didn't
disappoint. The finals put the team led by Deb Capozzi up against another
very strong team led by Katie Pilley-Lovell. After a hard-fought battle,
Capozzi and her crew of Lindsay Bartel (Bayport, NY), Kelly Hand (Vancouver,
Canada) and Chantal Legler (Montreal, Canada) took home the National
Championship title. The U.S. Women’s Match Racing Championship, sponsored by
Rolex Watch U.S.A., Inc. and Dry Creek Vineyard, was hosted by Newport
Harbor Yacht Club in Newport Beach, CA, and raced on Governor Cup 21s.

Championship, which kicks off today, the first day of racing, at Coral Reef
Yacht Club in Miami and runs through this Saturday. More than 80 boats are
registered for the event. RESCUE MEDAL AWARDED TO DAVID PENSKY AND RICHARD HOLDEN On behalf of US SAILING, Gary Jobson has presented
US SAILING's Arthur B. Hanson Rescue Medal to David Pensky and Richard
Holden after they rescued the owner of a fishing boat whose boat had
capsized and sunk. The two discovered the victim about 8 miles off the coast
of Boca Raton, FL, and responded promptly to pull the fisherman to safety.
The effective lookout and quick actions of Pensky and Holden, combined with
the skillfully executed man overboard recovery effort, resulted in the
successful lifesaving rescue of a person in need while upholding the best
traditions of seamanship. DO YOU KNOW A US SAILOR OF THE WEEK? Who is the most passionate sailor you know? Who is
always on the water, taking every rules quiz or searching for that perfect
cruising lunch spot? Or do you know someone who is newly converted to the
sport and soaking up information like a sponge? How about a junior sailor
whom you have to command to "please step away from the dinghy." Do you know
someone who gives as much time and energy to building a fleet or running
races as they do to working at the office? We want to know about them!
