ENCOURAGING PARTICIPATION AND PROMOTING EXCELLENCE
IN SAILING
USA SAILORS BRING HOME TWO GOLD, TWO BRONZE MEDALS FROM WORLD SAILING GAMES Lake Neusiedl, Austria - USA sailors are bringing
home two gold medals and two bronze medals from the 2006 International
Sailing Federation (ISAF) World Sailing Games, which wrapped up over the
weekend in Lake Neusiedl, Austria. Paige Railey (Clearwater, Fla.)
solidified her world #1 ranking in the Women’s One-Person Dinghy event,
sailed in Laser Radials, by winning another gold medal in a major
international event. In addition, demonstrating that the USA is a worldwide
leader in team racing, Danny Pletsch (New York, N.Y.), Carrie Howe (Grosse
Pointe, Mich.), Caleb Silsby and Paige Hannon (Newport Beach, Calif.) won a
gold medal in the Open Team Sailing event, followed by another USA team --
Tim Wadlow (Beverly, Mass.), Ery Largay (Beverly, Mass.), Tim Fallon (North
Falmouth, Mass.) and Karen Renzulli (Somerville, Mass.) -- winning the
bronze medal in the same event. Annie Nelson (San Diego, Calif.) and Susan
Korzeniewski (Liverpool, N.Y.) also won a bronze medal in the Women's
Multihull event.
BUSY MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND FOR SAILING INSTRUCTORS-TO-BE For many regions across the country, Memorial Day
Weekend means the start of a new summer sailing season. This is definitely
the case for sailing instructors: 18 Small Boat Level 1 Instructor Courses
will take place at sailing organizations nationwide this weekend. By the
time the weekend is over, US SAILING will have trained about 250 new

WHERE IN THE WORLD IS THE US SAILING TEAM? Looking at where some of the world's major regattas
are happening right now, that's where you'll find the athletes of the US Sailing Team:
from Annapolis, MD, to Denmark and the Netherlands, the US Sailing Team is
there. After the World Sailing Games wrapped up in Austria, many
Team-members packed their bags, loaded up their cars, and headed to Medemblik, the Netherlands, to compete in the Holland Regatta. Ten teams
from the USA will compete in the event, which runs from May 24 to 28. While
many US Sailing Team-members are in Holland, numerous of the Team's Star
sailors are Annapolis, MD, to compete in the Star Western Hemisphere
Championship. Meanwhile, in Denmark, Sally Barkow is defending her Women's
Match Racing World Champion title. One of the sailors she'll face on the
race course is USA's Betsy Alison. U.S. OLYMPIC COMMITTEE FEATURES NICK SCANDONE FOR ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT
The U.S. Olympic Committee recently selected to highlight Nick Scandone - US
Disabled Sailing Team-member and 2005 US SAILING Rolex Yachtsman of the Year
