What Are Regional Sailing Associations and US SAILING Areas?
Regional Sailing Associations
Regional
Sailing Associations (RSA's) are composed of yacht club and local sailing associations in a specific
geographical area. A local sailing
association is normally a group of sailboat racers in a specific area who are
organized solely for the purpose of conducting local racing. They often operate
on a volunteer basis without a permanent sailing facility.
Yacht Clubs are private or public organizations, usually with a specific
facility.
Regional
Sailing Association membership is composed of those yacht clubs and local sailing associations
who pay modest
dues to the Regional organization.
RSA's also accept individual
memberships.
If your yacht club or sailing association is not a member of your Region, click
on your Region to contact its Commodore.
Delegates
from member
yacht clubs and local sailing associations elect Regional Sailing Association officers.
RSA's organize and conduct the US Sailing ladder events for the various
US Sailing championships.

clubs, click on the Region you reside in to access its Home Page. US Sailing Areas
The
map in “Areas and Regions” on this website, details the ten Areas that
comprise US Sailing. Area officers
and an Area Director are elected by the Regional Sailing Associations. Each of the ten Area Directors is a member of the Board of
Directors of US Sailing.
Areas
conduct the finals for US Sailing ladder events and send the winners to the
national championships. The Areas
also certify local race officers and judges after they have completed US Sailing
courses. Individual Members
There
are a variety of categories of individual membership for US Sailing. See the US
Sailing Home Page for details. US
Sailing is the national governing body of sailing, and all sailors should have an
individual membership in US Sailing. |
