|
August 14 Racing for the Chubb U.S. Junior Sailing Championships continued today
The weather was very similar to yesterday’s conditions. There were many “Charlies” or change of courses as the excellent Principle Race Officers tracked the wind’s progress as the morning’s NW breeze clocked around to 150-165 degrees during the course of the day. Jim Walsh is the PRO for the Bemis/Smythe course ran three races. Bill Scheyer, the PRO for the sears Course, ran four races.
The U.S. Junior Singlehanded Sailing Championship for the Smythe Trophy Cliff Porter from Lake Geneva, WI had sailed three races but only gained two points from yesterday’s totals for a total of 17. Cliff had two bullets and an OCS. Brendan Faria from FAST/Ida Lewis YC in RI had a good day and moved up to second with 28 points. Cleve Hancock from Clearwater YC, Florida had an up and down day with a 10, 2 and an OCS. Cleve is standing in third with 33 points. All three of the leaders have their throw-outs so tomorrow’s two races both will be counters. Michael Schalka, fresh from the Laser Radial Worlds in the Netherlands won the final race of the day. Michael is in ninth with 57 points.
U.S. Junior Doublehanded Sailing Championship for the Bemis Trophy The Chicago YC team of Stephanie Hudson and Laura McKenna climbed into for first place tied in points Mac Mace and Jeff Aschieris from Newport Harbor YC, CA. Both teams have 34 points. Ryan Mullins and Victoria DaSilva from Greenwich Bay Sailing Association in Rhode Island moved into third with 36 points. All three teams have finishes deep into the teens so none of them have the luxury of a big throw-out to give up. Tyler Woodbridge and Ian Towill from Kaneohe YC, HI won another race and are currently in seventh with 50 points. Michael Grove and Alex Delle Cese from Encinal YC in Lafayette, CA won the first race of the day and are in eleventh place with 64 points.
