National Junior Championship Chair, John Strassman reports:

In the Laser Caleb Paine from Southwestern YC (San Diego) won race six but Charlie Buckingham from Newport Harbor YC (CA) came in second and clinched the Singlehanded Championship with one race to go.  In the 420 Class, things tightened up when Alan Palmer and Katherine Gullick from Portland YC (ME) won race six.  Regatta leaders Sam Williams and Margaret Rew from Bay Head YC (NJ) came in fifth and slipped two points behind Palmer and Gullick.  The teams needed to sail the seventh race before a drop race would be allowed.

The wind made one more effort to mess with everyone’s mind and the RC adjusted the race course for race seven.  Charlie Buckingham was enjoying a victory lap when he relaxed just a little too much and death-rolled on a downwind leg.  O well, he threw out the nineteenth and still won the regatta.  Defending 2005 Champ Cam Cullman from American Harbor YC (Rye, NY) won the race and finished tied on points with Caleb Paine but finished second with the tie breaker.  Great racing, guys!

In 420 race seven, Molly Lucas and Charlotte Williams won the race and finished third overall.  Sam William and Margaret Rew finished second but could only watch as Alan Palmer and Katherine Gullick finished fifth. These two teams both finished with fifteen points but the Palmer and Gullick team won on the tie-breaker.  Both teams sailed an excellent regatta.
