U.S.  Women's Sailing  Championship 2006
Saturday, September 17

The battle is on for second and third place.  photo: T. Jucaitis

Saturday the first race was sailed under clouds in light air.  The the sun came out and the winds died.  The Race Committee was very patience and waited until the wind finally filled in and we sailed in light air for the second and third race of the day.

Today gave the light air sailors their chance to show their stuff!  While Vicki Sodaro has a commanding lead with twenty one points, the competition has been very close with four points between second and third, tie for fourth and fifth, one point between sixth and seventh.  New York's team of Anne Mooney (Helm), Christina Blaise, Alexandra Hahn and Nina DeNigris are holding onto second place and the Southern Californian team of Susan Taylor (Helm), Kellie Fennessy, Denise George and Michelle Ondrey, had a better day today and regained third place.

Anything can happen tomorrow.  Moderate air is predicted so the competitors will have a chance to sail in all kinds of wind.  Tomorrow will tell the tale between second and third, sportsmanship and shipshape awards as those awards are running close too!

We've heard nothing but compliments regarding the regatta, the race management and the land management.  There are eleven happy crews and many support personnel.

Tomorrow will tell the tale.
