U.S.  Women's Sailing  Championship 2006
Thursday, September 14

The first day of racing was under cloudy skies, with winds 8-12 knots and rolling and choppy seas.  For fear of forecasted light air to come, the race committee chose to hold four races today.  The first two went off without a hitch, but then a few breakdowns caused delays- nothing disastrous, just minor breaks. Then all of the races were able to be completed.

Most impressive was Area G (Vicki Sodaro, Stephanie Wondolleck, Karina Vogen Shelton, and Emily French) who took a  commanding lead in the first three races with three bullets.  Another impressive finish was from the team from H-W (Jennifer Warnock, Bridget Shear, Catherine Greenlee, Lugene Simeona) who led race three until the last windward mark, giving Vicki Sodaro a run for her money.

All racers have split sides going upwind only to come together at the windward mark.  All the teams have been competitive.  The  PRO, Marcia Everingham, has  done a wonderful job along with her expert crew from Edgewater Yacht Club.  Nancy Zangerle has done a great job with the on shore duties and everything is running smoothly.

After a chilly day on the water, the chili dinner was a warm relief.  All the ladies went home tired and ready for another day on the water tomorrow.
