U.S.  Women's Match Racing Championship 2006
Wednesday, November 8

Day one of the U.S. Women's Match Racing Championship dawned beautiful and unfortunately windless.  The nine teams got into the Governors Cup 21s, and after a 55 minute tow, they were ready for racing - but there was still no wind.

After a two hour postponement, the breeze began to fill, and the race committee was able to get the racing started in about 5 knots of breeze.  Liz Baylis' the San Francisco Women's Match Race Team and Deb Capozzi's team ran off the first two flights with victories.

During the third flight, the breeze began building, but the fog began rolling in.  The first two matches were able to finish before the visibility went out completely, and the race committee was forced to abandon the other two matches that were still on the course.  Baylis and Lovell won those two matches.

After milling about the main committee boat as the fog got thicker and thicker (while the breeze built to a nice level, unfortunately), the race committee called racing for the day and towed the teams home.

After two and a half flights, the teams stand as follows:

Baylis 3-0

Capozzi 2-0

Hayes 2-1

Treadwell 1-0

Bienvenue 1-1

Lovell 1-2

Scheibner 0-2

Hjorth 0-1

Arms 0-3

Tomorrow the race committee will work to finish the first round robin and get into the second as far as possible.  The weather forecast looks more favorable!
