Southern Yacht Club, New Orleans, Louisiana
November 13 - 16, 2003
Report from Susan Epstein, Women's Sailing Chair - 9/23/2003

Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans, host of the 2003 United States Women’s Match Racing Championship (USWMRC) on Lake Pontchartrain, November 13-16, 2003. This event will be used as the Qualifier to fill the "Host Slot" at the 2004 World Women's Match Racing Championship (WWMRC). The highest placing US Eligible Team that has not otherwise been invited to compete at the 2004 ISAF WWMRC, shall be selected.

The generous support  of Rolex with sponsorship of a clinic, and of Boat U.S. with the loan of its matched J/22 sails will help to ensure fair competition and a successful event.

The roster of competitors, reading like a “Who’s Who” of women sailors in the U.S, includes ISAF’s 2003 World Yngling Champion, Hannah Swett; and skippers Carol Cronin, Jody Swanson, Sally Barkow, and their crew.  These four skippers and most of their crew for this event are members of the United States Sailing Team.

The following five competitors, ranked among the top 29 of women match racers in the most recent ISAF Rankings, are  2002 World Women’s Match Racing Champion, Liz Baylis, as well as, Sandy Hayes, Charlie Arms, Elizabeth Kratzig, and Sarah Buckley. Completing the ten team roster  is  host entry, Louise Bienvenu, a relative newcomer to the match racing circuit, but successful skipper in J/30 and J/80 competition around the Gulf area.  Five teams remain wait-listed.
