Oyster Bay, NY. (October 20, 2007) - Twenty-two teams completed the second day of the 2007 US Team Racing Championship beautiful summer-like weather of 5-10 knot winds and 70-degree sunshine. This was quite a change from the thunderstorms of the previous day. The Seawanhaka race committee completed an amazing 91 races within eight hours. Leading the Gold Fleet after 111 races were SDYC, NYYC Silver Panda and Whishbone each with four wins and two losses. The Silver Fleet saw NYYC Amateur Hour with six wins and one loss, and Tap N’ Go with five wins and one loss. Seawanhaka Corinthinan Yacht Club with six wins and no losses, was first in the Bronze Fleet, followed by One Night Only with five wins and one loss. Sunday will see another 50 races to determine the finalists. The second round will be completed with another 20 races. Following those races the 12 teams with the best record of wins-losses will enter the quarter finals. Most of these will be eliminated from the regatta during the quarter/semifinals. Aimee Kelleher from the Tabor Academy Seawolves, the only high school team in the regatta, remarked that “this was some of the most exciting racing I have ever experienced. We really have enjoyed the competition and the camaraderie.” Steve Wolff, the Chief Umpire, commented; “This is a world-class regatta. All the teams are sailing at championship level and regardless of how they finish each can be proud of their performance here.”
