U.S. Men's Championship Selection Process
|
The following is the procedure to be used by the U.S. Men’s Championship Selection Committee. Questions from the resume are weighted in point value depending upon the importance of the question. Resume submissions will be individually ranked by each of the selection committee members. The maximum score is 100 points. The individual scores will be averaged to determine the final score for each applicant.
The following are evaluated: · Is the primary class similar to the one used for the championship · Did the applicant compete in an elimination for the U.S. Men’s Sailing Championship? · The results from the most important regatta in the applicant’s primary class in the past three years that the applicant sailed in as helmsman · Previous US SAILING championships in which the applicant has been a helmsman within the past three years and the results. · The results of most important regatta that the applicant sailed as helmsman outside their primary class in the past three years · Other notable accomplishments in the past three years · A personal statement on why the competitor wishes to participate
In making evaluations the committee may research regatta scores, use personal knowledge, or use other information sources as may be available.
The scores will be sorted in descending order and invitations will be extended to the highest ranking applicant first then to the next highest and so on until all available openings have been filled. If an invitation is declined by an applicant, the next individual in the sequence will be invited.
The previous year’s winner of the U.S. Men’s Sailing Championship will automatically be invited to defend his title and will take a vacant slot if he accepts the invitation.
As the national governing body for sailing in the United States, selectors may not discriminate based upon the applicant’s race, color, religion, age, sex, or national origin.
