2006 U.S. Match Racing  Championship
October 7

Fresh winds greeted the rising sun and set the stage for the completion of the Finals and the Petit Finals. Both matches were 1-0 from the first meetings on Friday evening with the Finals being led by Dave Perry (Pequot YC) and the Petit led by Nathan Hollerbach (Bayview YC)

Although shifty, the morning air was about to bring on some great racing. Each series was taken to its maximum number of races to establish a winner.

The Petit Finals went the limit as Nathan Hollerbach, a past champion took on Benz Faget (New Orleans YC). Benz took the first match to tie the count at 1-1 and Nathan came roaring back with the win in the final match for the 3rd place spot.

The Finals was 1st to 3 points and Brian Angel (King Harbor YC) and Dave Perry went the limit. Two past U.S. Match Racing Champions had the number of wins at 2-2 going into the 5th start, a winner take all!

And in the end, it's Dave Perry who took home the 2006 U.S. Match Racing Championship title. 24 years after his first Championship (1982) Dave repeated his win. Brian Angel made it very difficult and kept all in doubt until the final match.

This year's teams provided us with competitive racing, allowing no room for error. The support from the Fort Worth Boat Club members, the Race Committee and staff carried the regatta through some very trying and light wind times, but ended up having one of the best finals yet.

Results were:

Champions: Pequot Yacht Club: Dave Perry, Terry Flynn, Chris Museler
2nd Place: King Harbor: Brian Angel, Michael Delanty, Payson Infelise
3rd Place: Bayview Yacht Club:  Nathan Hollerbach, Evan Jahn, Micheal Rehe
4th Place: Southern Yacht Club: Benz Faget, Dave Bolyard, John Duffy
