Daily Reports
Day 2 –
April 14, 2005
Conditions: Light
air
Today's weather was
similar to Day 1 but with no fog. The day began with 5-7
knot breezes, the wind built throughout the day so by fourth race, it was
blowing 14 -15 knots and sailors were out trapezing. The breeze then
dropped to 8 -12 knots for last race. John Williams reports that the
racing is very tight with boats finishing within 3.5 minutes of each
other. The other dynamic that is in play is the new boat rotation which
means that the sailors are sailing on a different boat every race.
Greg Thomas and Jacques
Bernier are the clear leaders at this point in the championship and they
are also the most experienced Hobie Tiger sailors in the country. However
competition for second and third is very tight with only three points
separating the fifth and second place boats. Yesterday, the team of
Stan Schreyer and Jonathan Farrar in Race 4A discovered they'd been
dragging a garbage bag on the daggerboard. The result was they had a
disappointing finish but bounced back with a first to get back into contention
for today's racing.
The
forecast for Day Three - more light air.
