Alter Cup
US SAILING Area D North Eliminations
October 16-17, 2004
Hosted by The Spring Fever Group

First place – Dave Lennard  and Mike Kranz
Second Place – Nigel and Tammy Pitt
Third Place – Rick Harper and Lynn Olsen

All participants arrived during the day on Friday at Nigel Pitt’s home on Georgia’s Lake Hartwell and after setting the boats up, gathered for a pizza party where the main topic of conversation was the expected winds for Saturday’s races. 18 to 20 out of the south with gusts in the afternoon of over 30.

Had all boats on the water and ready to start the first race by 11:00 and the winds were already blowing a constant 15-17 with gusts in the low 20s. After completing the second race, Jeff Price and the race committee, who by now were taking a few waves over the bow of the 28’ pontoon committee boat, decided that enough boats had flipped at least once and that enough damage had been sustained, and it was time to head for the beach.

After drying out and a refreshment or two, the whole gang piled into Nigel’s motorcoach and went to Hartwell for dinner at the Mexican restaurant.

Sunday’s forecast was for zero wind in the morning building to only about 3-4 in the afternoon. Trying to set a course was a real challenge for the Race Committee as what little wind there was kept moving back and forth through about 270º. One race was finally completed providing the necessary three races.
