October 2-3, 2004
Youth will be served!
Congratulations to Matt Keenan of Fleet 250 for his great performance this
weekend at the Miles River Yacht Club for the Area C Alter Qualifier. Matt
sailed a Nacra I17R to four bullets and a third.
Mike is a senior in high school and kicked the butt of the rest of us! Rumor
has it that John Sullivan and Dan Kulkoski of
Fleet 250 have had a hand in teaching Matt all of their tricks…. Next year….
they will have to come down and get spanked by Matt as well!
Kudos to all. Don and Greg were second on the
I20 and John and myself were third on the
Tornado.
Complete results are found below.
CRAC and myself would like to thank our host, Ernie Becker, at the gorgeous
Miles River Yacht Club. Ernie assembled a great team to staff two marks
boats and a race committee 40 footer for 5 races on
Saturday! Unfortunately, the wind failed to cooperate on Sunday.
The Miles River was just spectacular this weekend. The fall foliage is in
full glory and flocks of migrating geese were scattered by cats having a
great time in the absolutely perfect 8 to 12 knots during the day. A 19th
century schooner slowly paraded up and down the river with tourists on
board. Family spectators were able to catch all of the action in front of St
Michaels as well. We took a break on the water when the marks boats
delivered lunch of a wrap, chips, oranges, candy bars and water. After
racing we extended the party into happy hour in the club bar and then joined
a group of sailors from the Singles on Sailboats cruise in the
Tiki Dock Bar. (What happens in St Michaels
stays in St Michaels.) We headed out to dinner.
Sunday’s lack of wind was balanced by a close examination of a couple of
100-year old log sailing canoes of Judge Murphy. Greg was not able to
convince him to let a bunch of cat sailors try
to really make Island Blossom fly if we just “heated it up!” Trophies
were awarded in the Tiki bar amidst a carpet of
peanut shells and hot hors d'oeuvre.
Thanks again to Commodore Gordon Miles and PRO Ernie Becker for their wonderful
hospitality and great racing.
Take Care
