Saturday, July 28 No races were sailed today awarding Kyle Rogachenko as the winner of the George D. O’Day Trophy at the 2007 U.S. Singlehanded Sailing Championship. The competitors were towed out to the sailing area an hour earlier in hopes to get a couple of races off today. The breeze never came and the Race Committee called off racing at 1 P.M. All competitors were towed back to the yacht club. With 7 total races over the course of the past two days the results were set. Kyle finished with a total of 25 points with Clay Johnson only one point behind him. Charlie Buckingham finished in third with 32 points. Peter Seidenberg was nominated by the judges and competitors and was awarded the Peter J. Barrett Sportsmanship award. During the awards ceremony Seidenberg said, “I am tremendously honored to have my name added to this trophy." The Corinthian Yacht Club of Cape May did a wonderful job hosting the regatta. Regatta Chair Mark Penny and his team of volunteers organized a great event. "The Race Committee gets credit for getting off 7 very good races. It could have easily been a few race regatta," Johnson said. Best of luck to all the sailors who are heading to the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in the fall.
